| Again-St Abandon |
Again-st Abandon (Again students - Against
students’ abandon) is a transnational project carried
out by organisations representing Italy, France, Latvia, Spain and
United Kingdom, co-financed by the European Programme Leonardo da
Vinci.
The project refers to the high drop-out rates within secondary and
further education, and aims at supporting the re-integration and qualification
of young people who have left the Educational System, are at risk
of social exclusion and unemployment and do not easily approach or
benefit from counselling and guidance services.
To cope with the phenomenon of education abandon in general, means
to encourage the return to School in order to assure to all young
leavers the opportunity to enter the labour market with a proper professional
qualification, by promoting the integration between the formal, non-formal
and informal learning.
Even though during last years policies and strategies have been identified
and have been also realised considerable financial placements, the
school leaving phenomenon has to be assumed as “structural”
in the most part of European countries, as it has spread too much
if considered within the frame of a socio-economic system that grounds
its competitiveness on knowledge.
By using methods related to the action-research, Again-st Abandon
will plan, realise and experiment communication tools that operators
of counselling and guidance services would use to support and guide
the re-integration process of young dropouts within the education
formal path and put in practice counselling, empowerment and training
target-oriented actions.
The innovation of Again-st Abandon stands in the hypothesis that there
are divergences among the communication codes adopted by teachers,
trainers and counsellors and the ones used by dropouts. As a result,
the actual non-communication among parts does not allow, on one hand,
dropouts to express needs and difficulties in due time to avoid their
school leaving, on the other hand, teachers and counsellors to make
dropouts understand the advantages related to the permanency in the
education path or to the reintegration in the formal system.
The most part of the policies aimed at coping with the phenomenon
have faced the difficulty to meet this target group as it tends to
disappear inside contexts characterised by the black economy or social
and cultural decay.
Again-st Abandon will suggest the way to “catch” young
dropouts and re-motivate them to interact with local services and
organizations, starting from the realisation of didactic and informative
tools, addressed to operators, based on the transferring and adapting
of communication codes and channels, usually adopted in non formal
and informal contexts, to agencies formally involved in educational
and employment systems and services.
DURING FOLLOWING 2 YEARS AGAIN-ST ABANDON WILL:
- discover the places where dropouts gather;
- compare the logistic and organizational features of this places
with the ones of school and training centres;
- identify the margins to reduce the weakness points related
to the availability of the training offer;
- work out tools to improve the communication between learning
facilitators and dropout;
- work out tools and products to transfer to operators the best
and effective ways to offer the product school/training/counselling.
DURING THE FOLLOWING 2 YEARS AGAIN-ST ABANDON WILL PRODUCT:
A Handbook for counselling and guidance operators
(IT, EN, FR) including:
- a Territorial Data Recording System;
- grids and protocols for carrying out individual and collective
guidance and counselling interviews;
- a DVD including libraries of simulations focused on interviewing
methods
- prototypes of informative tools (graphic sketches, scripts,
key spots, posters, depliants, brochures)
- an Advertising Plan on the theme of school abandon.
